Gus is Five Months Old!

Wow! Time is flying by! Scary how that happens. My maternity leave is winding down and I'm trying to enjoy every last moment of it. Not only will I miss seeing Gus, but I'll also miss all of the extra time I've gotten to spend with Audrey. She has been going to school part time during my leave but will return to full time in July. She told me she didn't want me to go back to work...:-(
Look at those curls!

Gus is doing really well. It's so much fun to see Gus and Audrey together. Audrey just adores him. The other day she said, "I love Gus so much! I'm going to marry him! I can't wait to marry him!" And then Gus smiled and she said "He's excited to marry me, too!" I didn't have the heart to tell her that it wouldn't work out! Gus also loves his big sissy. He gets a huge smile on his face every time he sees her. She loves to play on the floor with him and we've been including him in nightly story reading and he loves that.

Gus continues to give us big smiles but we haven't gotten any big laughs yet. A few snickers, but that's it. He has started being more vocal lately, saying "boooo" and blowing raspberries - so cute! He loves standing up while we're playing, he's got strong little legs! He's starting rolling over from his tummy to his back more consistently, but still not much rolling onto his tummy yet. His head control has also gotten a lot better. We even started putting him in the bumbo this week! He likes sitting up and looking around. We're still going to physical therapy every other week, but hoping we can stop when he's six months old since he seems to be progressing well.

He is still a pretty terrible sleeper at night. Everyone says I have unrealistic expectations since Audrey was such a great sleeper. He fights going to bed and usually won't fall asleep for the night until about 9:00 and then he wakes up twice to eat. Sometimes he seems really hungry but sometimes he just wants a snack. Once he hits 6 months we might need to start with some sleep training. This momma needs her sleep!

He's a pretty good napper. He takes about three naps a day, usually about an hour long. And he's really good about falling asleep on his own pretty quickly. Sometimes he'll surprise us and sleep for two and a half hours. He's still a bit unpredictable.

I took him to Hallmark to visit a few weeks ago. He cried when he saw a room full of strangers! He has a bit of stranger anxiety but I don't remember it being as bad as it was with Audrey.

We leave Friday for our road trip to the beach! Hoping he does well in the car. I'm honestly more worried about how Audrey will handle it! And then after that, it's back to work. I don't want to talk about it...
