3 Months Old!

3 Months! I swear she smiles, but I can never catch it on camera!
Audrey is 3 months old today! Some of the books I've been reading (can you tell I'm obsessed with reading these baby books?) say that this signals the end of the "fourth trimester." The theory is that based on baby's development and behavior, they should really still be in utero for an entire year. I can say that I'm thankful that is not true! Not to jinx myself, but I do feel like things are starting to get a little easier. Maybe it's just that I'm getting the hang of this motherhood thing finally! :-)

Baby's first hair bow!
This week, we went to a breastfeeding support group. They had a scale there, so I weighed Audrey for the first time since her last doctor's appointment (2 months) and she had only gained a pound. Based on what "the books" say, she should be gaining half a pound a week, so I decided to take her to the doctor to get weighed to make sure everything is on track. Another thing that they don't tell you (there are a lot of things "they" don't tell you about motherhood I've discovered!) is that once you become a mother, you instantly start to worry. Maybe it's just me, but I'm constantly worried about her. I guess my mom was right when she always said "just wait until you're a mom!" Darnit. So she now weighs almost 11 lbs and is 23 inches. So she gained a pound and an inch in a month. The doctor said that an inch is a lot to grow in a month, so she's not worried about the weight gain. So I'm glad we went to the doctor, it eased my mind (for now at least!).
Another VERY exciting development has occurred within the last two days - sleep! Two nights ago, she slept for 8 straight hours! The longest she has gone before that was just 6, so this was very exciting! Of course, I woke up every few hours to make sure she was still breathing, but I still got more sleep than I had in a long time. And then, last night she slept for 9 hours! She went to bed at 9:45 p.m. and woke up a 6:45 a.m. to eat and then went back to sleep until 9:45 a.m., so it was really more like 12 hours! Scott thinks she might be going through a growth spurt or something, but I'm not going to complain! She still will only take 30 minute naps during the day, but that's fine with me if she continues to sleep during the night!

Finally, we've had some pooping issues this week. She has exploded out of more outfits this week than her first 3 months combined! It started on Sunday - we went to my friend Jeannie's house to watch the Grammy's and she exploded out of her diaper in her car seat right when we arrived. Good thing I had a backup outfit. Unfortunately, it happened again on Tuesday at the doctor's office. Forgot to pack a new backup outfit - oops! Needless to say, we had a bath when we got home.

Big Girl Bed!

Ever since Audrey was born, she has been sleeping in our room in the pack 'n play. All the sleep books I've been reading say that you should put the baby in their own crib around 3-4 months so they can establish a good routine. So yesterday, we decided it was time to move to her crib. This made me a little sad - I enjoy having her close to me so I can hear all her little noises (and check to make sure she is still breathing!). But she did really well! She woke up about the same amount of times that she usually does, so it was a success! I think I even slept a little bit better since I wasn't hearing every noise she makes. She seems to really like her room. She likes looking at the decal on her wall, her mobile and her ceiling fan (why do babies love ceiling fans so much?).

This means we also started using the video monitor. I gotta say, the video monitor creeps me out! It has night-vision, so it makes everything in the room look strangely eerie...like Blair Witch Project...yikes! But it is nice to be able to see what she's doing when we're downstairs. I just need to get over the creepiness!

Week 12 - Milestones Galore!

We were very excited that the weather has been nicer this week and we took advantage by getting out of the house as much as possible! It was a busy week for us, but more importantly, we've reached a few milestones...
Trying to hold her head up like a big girl!
First, Audrey is now holding her head up! She does get tired after a little while, but she is definitely able to control her head more than ever! She loves sitting up in my lap or up on my shoulder so she can look around and take everything in - she is a very curious little girl! She also has started sucking her fingers. She's been sucking on her hand for a while now (she loves to try to get her entire fist in her mouth, great party trick), but now she has been sucking on her two middle fingers - just like her mommy did when she was little!

Other developments include talking - she is very vocal. And, she turned over from her tummy to her back! It only happened once so it might have been a fluke, but she definitely did it!

Another first this week was our first yoga class together. The yoga studio where I took prenatal yoga also offers mommy/baby yoga classes. It was so much fun! Audrey ended up sleeping through most of the class, but while she was awake she enjoyed meeting all the other babies.

Finally, we had another big first - mommy and daddy's first date night out without the baby! Saturday night was Scott's fire department's Valentine's Day dance. Gaga and Papa came over to babysit and she did very well. I think I did pretty well too - I only called to check in once (and only texted once)!
Ready for date night!
We also had more visitors. My manager from work, Sallie, stopped by with her little girl, Penelope. She is expecting a boy in May, so she will go on maternity leave two weeks after I return to work! I anticipate those being two very busy weeks of catching up! :-)

Week 11 - Snowed in AGAIN!

Audrey June - Week 11
This weather is really getting old fast! Audrey has yet to really be outside longer than a few seconds, so it will be really nice to be able get outside once the weather is nicer. The Blizzard of 2011 dropped about a foot of snow in our area with some huge drifts. Luckily Scott was off work and able to dig us out about 4 times on Tuesday.
Scott bundled up and shoveling the driveway!
Before the snow hit, Nana and Papa stopped by for a visit on Sunday. Audrey is always happy to have visitors!
Since she has suddenly outgrown all of her clothes, I had to go out to buy her some new pajamas and Gaga took us on a shopping spree for some new clothes as well! The one below kind of makes her look like a tiny but cute prisoner...pretty appropriate considering the weather this week - we are trapped in our own house! :-)

Gaga & Audrey!

Also, we just got our video camera, so once we figure out how to use it, I'll post some videos!
