Sleepy girl!

So I've mentioned before that Audrey has been sleeping through the night for a while now (and we realize how lucky we are!). She typically goes to bed around 7:00 and sleeps until about 7:00. There have been a few times that she has gone to bed very early, around 6:00 p.m., and slept through until about 7:00. Yesterday, she set a new sleeping record.

She typically has about 3-4 cat naps throughout the day (around 8:30/9:00, 11:00, 1:30/2:00 and then sometimes around 4:00/4:30). Yesterday, she was acting very tired around 4:30 p.m., so we put her down for what we thought would be a cat nap before bed. She didn't get up. Until 7:40 a.m.! That's more than 15 hours! Who sleeps that much? And now she is already taking her second nap of the day, so she's up to about 17 hours. Crazy! I hope she can stay up until at least 6:30 or 7:00 when I go back to work or I'll never see her! :-( Maybe it's just a growth spurt or something...

First word????

Today is the first day of the last week of my maternity leave, so I'm really trying to enjoy every minute I have with Audrey this week. We had a fun day today and she was in a terrific mood. She's always a happy baby but she was especially chipper today.

It started this morning. I had just finished nursing her in her room (usual routine - up by about 7:00, nurse until about 8:00 in her rocking chair). We were cuddling and I said "Mama loves you very much" and she said "Mama." Now she has been saying "mamama" all week, but this time it really seemed like she meant it! Maybe it's just wishful thinking ("the books" say this doesn't happen until closer to 8-9 months), but it sure felt good to hear!

Later in the day, we took a trip to Target. Before we had Audrey, I would take a trip to Target and easily spend $100 on stuff for myself and the house (a fun scarf, toilet cleaner, you name it). Today, I spent $100 and exactly $8 of that was something for myself (and it was something really fun and glamorous - breast pads). Oh how things have changed in the Lee household! The most fun purchase for Audrey was the Bumbo! We received the Bumbo as a shower gift but I returned it thinking there were other things we needed more urgently. Now that she can use this, I decided we had to have it. And she loves it! Money well spent at Target today.

Check me out - sitting up like a big girl!
Tonight I went to an infant/child CPR class with my mom (Gaga) and Scott's parents (Nana and Papa). They will be watching Audrey when I go back to work (and we are SOOO grateful for that), so I thought it would be good for us all to learn. It was a great class! I know I feel better prepared. It's just nice knowing that you would know what to do if the unthinkable happened.

Finally, one more funny picture I've been meaning to post. Last week, I went to get my hair cut and Scott stayed home with Audrey. As I was walking out of the door, Audrey had a blow out and needed new pants. I asked Scott if he wanted me to get some and he said he would find some. This is what she was wearing when I came home (why can't I figure out how to rotate photos???).

5 Months Old!

Audrey is 5 months old today! She is just so much fun right now and changing day to day. I just had to share this video...it's Audrey talking to me. Just in the last few days, she has really been talking a lot!

This week, we started letting her "cry it out" before naptime and bedtime. Even though she doesn't wake up during the night, she sometimes has trouble falling asleep on her own. I don't exactly follow what the book I'm reading recommends (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child recommends cry it out indefinitely at bedtime, and an hour at naptime). If she gets really upset, I go comfort her. Luckily, at naptime, she will usually fuss for 5-15 minutes and then fall asleep.  Last night was really rough for some reason. It took us two hours to get her to go to sleep for the night...that never happens! She was just in a bad mood I guess. But she is definitely getting better at going to sleep on her own.

Another new development this week - the introduction of formula! I'm going back to work in a week and a half, so I thought it would be good to at least get her used to it and she took it like a champ! I'm hoping to continue breastfeeding as long as possible and supplementing with formula, but we'll just have to see how it goes once I'm back at work.

Here are some fun pictures from this week!

First Laugh!

So apparently, Audrey laughed for the first time today and I missed it! Scott and I were actually just talking about how Audrey hasn't laughed yet and we were wondering when that should happen. I went upstairs to change her sheet (she had a minor blowout today) and during the 5 minutes that I was upstairs, Scott made her laugh! I'm so sad I missed it. He said he kissed her on her neck (she loves kisses!) and she totally giggled! He tried to do it again, but she was too sleepy and ready for bed. Guess I gotta step up my game and start being funnier!

A New Friend...

This week was a busy one! The most exciting part was welcoming a new friend...Owen Benjamin Wilde was born on Thursday and we were so excited to meet him! I hope that Audrey and Owen will become good friends since they are only four and a half months apart! We went to Jeannie and Derrick's on Tuesday to meet Owen. He seems so tiny compared to Audrey! You really do forget how small babies are when they're born - so cute! He was sleeping the entire time, but I can already tell that he looks just like big brother Braden - so adorable!

First date with Owen
(Audrey was hungry AND tired - hence the pacifier!)

Scott's now a pro at holding babies!

We also had another play date this week. My friend Nickole and her daughter Johnna came over for a visit. Johnna was born just a week before Audrey, so it is fun for us to compare notes about how/what they are doing and ask each other questions. They girls played on the floor and just kind of stared at each other. Johnna was trying to teach Audrey how to roll over, but it didn't really work! :-)

Audrey seems to be becoming more and more aware of her surroundings. Just recently, she has really started watching the dogs as they walk around her. I think she is trying to figure out what they are and why they want to lick her all the time. This morning, she even smiled at Oscar! Other fun developments including more talking. She is now saying "babababa" and "mamamama." This morning when she was crying, I swear she said Mama! :-) She also keeps her head level with her body when pulled up by her arms. We are still working on rolling over. After she did it and we caught it on camera, she kind of stopped doing it. She now will grab anything she can get her hands on and it immediately goes into her mouth. She is chewing on things more, which makes me think her first tooth might be on it's way. She is still loving her thumb as well. We are also happy to report that she is still sleeping through the night - usually 11 or 12 hours! We are so lucky! And an earlier bedtime (about 8:00) means I've been able to catch up on my Oscar movies finally! We watched 127 Hours, The Fighter and Black Swan (I watched it twice - it was so good!).

One month to go...

So the final month of my maternity leave has begun. I'll go back to work part time in May and full time in June. I've been so lucky to be able to take 5 MONTHS of maternity leave (thanks, Hallmark!). It's been so amazing to be able to be with her and have my main focus be on her for that long. Going back to work will be bittersweet. I like my job and have a lot of friends at work that I've really missed seeing (and as my friend Laura said, it'll be fun to get dressed up again!). But it's going to be so hard to leave her. But until then, we are going to live it up in April!

So the cold I mentioned last time turned out to be a doozy. Luckily, Audrey didn't get it as bad as I did. I've been pretty much wiped out for the entire week! Thankfully, Audrey has still been sleeping through the night, otherwise I'm not sure how I would function at all! And Scott was off work all weekend, so it has been nice to have his help - I even got to sleep in until 9:30 today!

And of course some new cute photos to share! We are still struggling with smiling for the camera. She really is a very happy baby who smiles all the time, she just hates to have her picture taken for some reason!
